Legal Benefits
MAESP offers up to $500 of job protection legal support for each member. ($200 beginning with your second year of membership and adding $100 more each year of consecutive membership to a maximum of $500). Members can access legal advice and information with regard to contract difficulties, state laws and related educational issues. Those leaders joining in the Comprehensive Active Principal or Comprehensive Active Assistant Principal membership categories get membership in both MAESP and NAESP and can accrue up to $10,000 of legal benefit services and a 2 million dollar liability policy.

Professional Development
MAESP offers a variety of professional development opportunities for principals, assistant principals and teaching staff each year. The annual MAESP Leadership Conference is the premier professional development event for elementary and middle level principals in Missouri. Other trainings specifically designed for Aspiring Principals, Early Career Principals, and Assistant Principals are also available.

MAESP offers an incredible network of principals and assistant principals across Missouri to support and advance your career.

Legislative Voice
MAESP is a member of the School Administrators Coalition (SAC) that includes MASA, MASSP, MARE, MO-CASE, MOASBO, and others and provides a robust voice on education issues in the Missouri General Assembly. MAESP advocates for legislation that supports and strengthens the role of the elementary and middle level principal as well as other issues important to education in Missouri. From January through May all members receive a weekly Legislative Bulletin with up-to-date information on legislative proposals and important votes in the Missouri Legislature.

Your MAESP Membership includes access to the Marshall Memo, a weekly publication designed to keep educators well-informed on current research and best practices.

Your MAESP Membership includes access to the Ed Leaders Network (ELN).  ELN is an online platform that provides educators with on demand professional development from a community of peers and experts.

MAESP Membership Levels

Active Principal or Assistant Principal
Restricted to those who hold a valid elementary principal and/or middle school principal's certificate or have a major responsibility for supervision and administration of an elementary and/or middle school, regardless of title, and persons who are actively engaged in educational research, professional education, elementary or middle school administration.  This membership category holds voting privileges and the right to hold office.

First Year Active Principal or Assistant Principal members receive a discounted rate. To receive the first year member discount, use code "FIRSTYEAR".

Aspiring
Reserved for students, teachers or other educators interested in entering the profession and/or involved in a recognized administration preparation program.

Associate
Reserved for college professors, post secondary educators,  or those not eligible for other types of membership.

Retired
A retired principal who was an Active member at the time of retirement and who officially retired from a public or private school.  (A retired principal who is working as an Interim principal must join in the Active category.)

Membership dues to Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. However, they may be tax deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses subject to restrictions imposed by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 as a result of association lobbying activities. Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals estimates that the non-deductible portion of your 2023 dues which is allocated to lobbying activity is 13%.
